Prisma Health Developmental Pediatrics–Sumter

Common diagnoses seen at our clinic include:

• Autism spectrum disorders.
• Developmental delays.
• ADHD.
• Learning disabilities.
• Intellectual disabilities.

After referral to our clinic, families meet with a developmental pediatrician or psychologist to discuss their concerns. Comprehensive assessments are planned to evaluate a child's cognitive, academic and social-emotional development. Families participate in a face-to-face feedback meeting and receive individualized recommendations for their child. Our physicians also consult about medication as indicated. Families receive written reports after the conclusion of the visit.

Our office does not provide therapy or psychiatric treatment. We serve children ages 0–21 from Columbia, Lexington and across the Midlands region of South Carolina. In addition, we are a training site for pediatric residents and third-year medical students, as well as students from a variety of other disciplines including speech/language pathology, psychology and genetic counseling. 

To refer a patient, physicians should complete the appropriate new patient referral/consult fax form and the supplemental referral form and fax to 803-758-0142.

Upon receiving an appropriate referral, the clinic staff will mail the child’s parents a packet of information and forms that must be completed and returned in the provided self-addressed stamped envelope. Parents will have four weeks to return the packet. If the packet is not received in this general time frame, we will notify the referring physician. A re-consult will be required if the referral still is needed.

To make an appointment, give us a call. Referrals are required for new patients. Please remember:

• Arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete a few forms.
• Bring insurance card and photo ID (such as a driver's license).
• Bring all medications you are currently taking.
• If you must cancel your appointment, please notify us 24 hours in advance.

Patients are responsible for understanding insurance coverage benefits. Please verify that we are listed as approved providers prior to scheduling your appointment with us.
