Surgical Cap Program

At Prisma Health Childrens' Hospital–Midlands, our child life specialists provide compassionate and caring assistance to patients and their families as they prepare for treatment and recovery related to surgery.

As part of our commitment, we offer every child scheduled for surgery the chance to choose a special surgery cap to wear and keep as a memento.

Custom caps for surgery patients

Join our program

Patients are invited to pick a new cap for each surgery, even if they undergo multiple procedures.

We can provide these caps thanks to our incredible volunteer crafters, who ensure we always have a wide selection of caps in fun, kid-friendly fabric designs on hand.

View the guidelines and easy instructions below to support the surgical cap program. Create your own colorful creations to help lighten the mood during a sometimes-scary time for young patients facing surgery.

Volunteers needed

We are seeking more volunteers to help keep a fun selection of caps always available for kids who need them. It’s an easy activity for anyone who enjoys sewing or is learning to sew and looking for a beginner-friendly project.

If you or your group would like to volunteer, please contact our child life team for more information. Please call 803-434-2617 or email childlifemidlands@prismahealth.org.
